Aż do 357 zabitych wzrósł bilans ofiar powodzi w Indii [GALERIA]

Liczba ludzi, którzy zginęli w południowo-zachodnim indyjskim stanie Kerala od początku sezonu monsunowego, czyli od końca maja, wzrosła do 357 – podały lokalne władze (33 osoby zmarły w ciągu ostatniej doby). Trwające deszcze monsunowe powodują powodzie i osunięcia ziemi. Z podawanych wcześniej informacji wynika, że od 8 sierpnia, gdy zaczęły padać szczególnie ulewne deszcze, w wyniku powodzi w Kerali zginęło już 227 osób.
Nadzieja?
Indyjskie służby meteorologiczne poinformowały w niedzielę, że w stanie Kerala pada już tylko w jednym czy dwóch miejscach, a poziom wody w niektórych rejonach zaczyna opadać. W wyniku powodzi i osunięć ziemi około 350 tys. ludzi zostało bez dachu nad głową i musiało schronić się w zorganizowanych tymczasowych obozach, których jest około 3 tys. Woda zniszczyła m.in. liczne drogi i ponad 130 mostów, co utrudnia trwającą akcję ratunkową. Bierze w niej udział ponad 1,3 tys. ratowników.
Obawy i zagrożenia
Według wstępnych szacunków lokalnych władz, straty poniesione w wyniku działania żywiołu wynoszą równowartość 2,9 mld dolarów. W sobotę Keralę odwiedził premier Indii Narendra Modi, który zadeklarował przekazanie na pomoc stanowi 71 mln dolarów. To jednak czterokrotnie mniejsza suma niż ta, o którą prosiły władze stanu. Jednocześnie w kraju pojawiają się obawy przed możliwymi chorobami czy epidemiami, które mogą wybuchnąć w obozach, gdzie tłoczą się tysiące ludzi.
Każdego roku w powodziach spowodowanych deszczami monsunowymi w Indiach ginie kilkaset osób. Pora monsunowa trwa tam od czerwca do września. W tym roku tylko w siedmiu stanach zginęło już w sumie ponad 1000 osób.
